The Date Night

This just might not be the date night you think it is...

SNEAK PEEK 1: KINGS CATCH

(Copyrighted & Unedited)

Eva Chavez

I pulled my keys from my back pocket and locked down the shop. My phone started to ring so I pulled from my bag as I rushed to head back home. I needed to get ready for my date. Romeo had been texting me throughout the day to make sure I would make it. I don’t know why the hell he was so eager, I didn‘t usually back out if he invited me somewhere.

The ride to my house didn‘t take much time, I had specifically picked something close to my boutique once it had started to show that it would Succeed as a brick-and-mortar. If you were a business owner you knew how different business can be, between an online boutique and an actual store. Sometimes the traffic didn‘t align due to how much shopping had changed with online retailers being the breadwinners.

Most customers prefer to purchase their things online. I know it was because it felt terrible to go into a store and find something you love only to see they don‘t have your size in stock or at all. This was why I tried to keep all sizing on hand and I wasn’t limited to just the average sizes. I wanted each woman to feel beautiful in all sizes.

I rushed into the house and jumped into the shower, then went into my adorning closet to grab a strapless bra since I was going with my shoulders out tonight. I picked out a cute cream dress that hugged my frame and stopped a few inches above my ankles. I washed my hair tonight so I was going with a wash and go look. I pulled two curls to drop in front of my face and pint up the rest. I did my makeup in more of a natural beat, I didn‘t want to do too much. Especially since whether or not Romeo pissed me off tonight would tell me if he was getting some or not. Once I was certain everything looked good I grabbed a pair of heels to match and then walked out of the room with my long cream jacket to go with my outfit. I glanced down at my watch once more and it was still enough time to make it to the restaurant on time.

Romeo and I didn‘t stay together, and he was insistent that I drive to meet him at the restaurant which wasn‘t his usual. I had this funny feeling settling in the pit of my stomach that he was going to propose but anytime the thought came, It felt wrong. Like I wasn‘t supposed to be marrying him or something.

It took me another thirty minutes to get to the restaurant he chose, it looked as if no one was there and that sinking feeling returned. I pulled down my visor to look into the mirror and make sure I looked good. I needed to make sure that I was in tip-top shape especially if what I thought was getting ready to happen, happened. My mother hadn‘t told me a thing about getting a call from him, but I guess who would spoil it?

I stepped out of my car and inhaled then exhaled before heading for the door. The moment I reached for it, the door was pulled back and a trail of red roses led me down a path. My heart picked up in speed as the one thing I had hoped wouldn’t happen was indeed happening. The moment I stepped into the large room it was filled with all of Romeo’s teammates and friends. I didn‘t see any of my family or friends in attendance.

That one thing made my stomach turn and almost made me want to turn around. If he was planning to propose which It was clear he was by the big sign that was behind him that said Will you Marry Me in bright lights. I smiled tightly so as to not embarrass him, but I wanted to say No so bad. But who could say no in front of a room filled with his peers?

I didn‘t want to hurt his pride or his feelings, especially after all the work he had put in. Romeo strolled over to where I was still standing in shock and took my hand into his own to lead me to the end of the roses in front of the sign. Tons of cameras were flashing around us as he bent down onto one knee.

He held my hand and then pulled the ring box from his pocket, my free hand went to my chest as I clutched my phone in my hand. I just knew I was getting ready to pass out. But I held it together as he continued his spiel that I wasn‘t paying a lick of attention to.

“Eva Chavez, Will you do me the honor and marry me?” he asked.

I opened my mouth and no words would leave my lips as he started to slide the ring onto my finger. Then at that moment, my phone started to ring and Darian’s name popped up on the screen. I let it go and smiled down at Romeo then looked around at the expectant eyes in the room.

Will she say yes?... you will only know when the book is released!
